Dear Parents and Families,

The heavy rain that fell this morning as I arrived at school, reminded me very much of our 15 MEPI (International Award students from secondary) who, alongside 6 members of staff, conducted some team building and a practice hike two weeks ago in Škofja Loka– that event also took place in the pouring rain with great resilience being shown by all.

MEPI TRIP 2022
What could be more fun than 15 people, bound together and blindfolded, searching for an egg in a park full of autumn leaves

There is a good expression in English that can be applied in these situations – ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, it is just weather’ – which means that everything in life should be viewed as an opportunity. Our MEPI students and staff are certainly examples of ensuring they meet both expected and unexpected challenges faced.

Smiles in the rain!

We have had excellent remembrance assemblies in both Primary and Secondary this week. Royal British Legion poppies have been on sale in school in support of families suffering from conflict around the world. In conjunction with the learning around honouring people for do amazing things, including putting themselves in terrible danger for the sake of our peace and security, we have also been remembering our school’s founder, Mr. Jeremy Hibbins who tragically passed away on 3rd November 2013. Jeremy had a vision for a British international school right here in Ljubljana to support his community, and he took direct action to ensure his dream became a reality. Hence the start of BISL of 2008. Jeremy is well remembered by those who knew him, and his efforts are appreciated by us all. Thanks to all students and staff involved in the delivery of these powerful assemblies, and especially to Y6 for their wonderful singing.

Finally, following on from the well-attended ‘Coffee with the Principal’ meeting this morning (thank you all for coming) I would like to confirm that our PTA are organising a planning meeting for the BISL Xmas Fair, for all interested and willing parents on Monday 14h November. Please do contact the PTA for further information via their What’s App or at pta@britishschool.si

Since we have reached the end of Block 2, I wish you all a wonderful and safe break. Whilst the children re-energise and relax, the teaching staff will be in school at the start of next week to share and learn together more of what we need to grow professional teaching community.

All best wishes,

Matthew Cox

School Principal
