My child has grown and developed immensely since we joined BISL, for which I am very grateful.
Primary SchoolParentYes. As an international school, we understand that families may relocate at different times of the year. We offer rolling admissions and welcome new students whenever spaces are available.
Absolutely. A 2016 law (ZIMPVI–RS 46/16) officially recognises international school programmes like ours as equivalent to local schools. Slovene children attending BISL receive an education considered equal to local schooling, and our curriculum includes at least 140 hours of Slovene language instruction annually.
All students, whether in Primary or Secondary, follow the same school schedule. The day begins at 07:50 and finishes at 14:50. After school, students may join one club activity, which runs until 15:40 at the latest.
During the school day, there are two breaks:
Morning snack break (around 10:00–11:00) – students bring a healthy snack from home.
Lunch break (around 12:00–13:00) – students may bring a packed lunch or order a school lunch for an additional cost.
Admissions at BISL are open throughout the year, depending on availability. Families can begin the process by contacting our Admissions Team to arrange a personal visit of the school or, if they are abroad, an online meeting to learn more about our community.
Once a family decides that BISL is the right choice for their child, they submit the application form through our online portal. After all required documents are provided, the application is reviewed and approved by the Principal. Successful applicants then receive an offer letter confirming a place for their child.
To secure the place, families sign the offer letter and pay the initial admission charges:
€750 deposit (refundable under certain conditions)
€1,200 admission fee
Total: €1,950 per child
Once these fees are paid, the child’s place is officially reserved. Tuition fees can then be settled either in one annual payment or in three instalments, with the first instalment due before the student’s first day of school.
This structured admissions process ensures transparency and gives families peace of mind that their child’s place at BISL is secure.

Yes, absolutely. Many of our students join with little or no English at first. We warmly welcome them and provide tailored support through our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme. Our teachers adapt lessons to different ability levels, helping children develop their English quickly while still progressing in all other subjects.
We offer English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, fully integrated into our curriculum. This ensures that every child can succeed academically and socially, even if English is not their first language.
All students complete an English placement test upon enrollment. Based on the results, students are placed into one of three tiers depending on the level of support they require:
Tier 1 – Basic Support: €200 per term
Tier 2 – Moderate Support: €700 per term
Tier 3 – Intensive Support: €1,000 per term
This structure ensures that every child receives the right level of English support, fully integrated into the curriculum, so they can thrive academically and socially from day one.
BISL is Slovenia’s longest-established international school, with a proven track record of academic success and the trust of our community. We combine a respected British academic foundation with a truly international student body, fostering a safe and supportive environment where children can thrive.
In addition, our school operates with a structured and professional approach, underpinned by clear policies and procedures that ensure consistency, high standards, and a well-organized learning environment. This structured framework benefits both students and staff, helping everyone achieve their full potential while maintaining a nurturing and collaborative atmosphere.
Tuition fees at the British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) vary depending on the year group your child will be joining.
