Class Allocation

Placing your child in the right class is an important part of supporting their growth and development. At BISL, we carefully consider each student as an individual and allocate classes based on:

-
Age in line with UK school criteria
-
Academic background, such as prior experience in the British system
-
Special circumstances, including social or emotional needs observed by our team

While we take each student’s background into account, in line with best practice we do not normally place children ahead of their age group. If at any point we feel a student would thrive better in a different class or year group, we may recommend a change. Any such decision is always made with care, professional judgement, and clear communication with parents.

International Equivalents

Because education systems vary worldwide, we provide an international comparison to help families understand how BISL aligns with other systems.

Admissions Criteria

As a non-selective school, we welcome students of all backgrounds. There are no admission or language requirements for children entering Early Years and Primary (up to Year 6).

For entry into Secondary (Year 7 and above), a certain level of English is needed to ensure students can fully access the curriculum. English proficiency will be assessed as part of the process, and we provide a comprehensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme for those who need extra support.

Entry into Year 12 is also dependent on previous IGCSE (or equivalent) results.

Students aged 6 and above will complete a Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4), either before or shortly after admission. Widely used across the UK, CAT4 helps us understand each child’s learning profile, identify areas for support, and set stretching but achievable goals. Measuring the four main types of ability known to make a difference to learning and achievement, CAT4 provides an independent perspective on potential student achievement, with reliable information for each child that will help identify where to provide extra support or set more challenging targets.
