A word from Mrs Železinger

First week back and we are in the full swing of things already! Starting with Pust last Tuesday 25th February, students and staff dressed up as Book Characters. It was wonderful to see everyone involved and some very innovative costumes. A big thank you to the PTA for their doughnuts sale, which brought a traditional twist to the Pust celebration in Slovenia.

The Block 5 theme running through primary and secondary focuses on English, and students will be able to partake in various related activities, starting with the World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. It is a good opportunity to celebrate the love of reading and you can find lots of fun activities on the website here.

PSHE topics in primary this block focus on Relationships: forming friendships and healthy relationships, including online relationships and safety. We urge parents to talk to their children about this topic at home to support and reinforce the development of social and emotional skills.

The My Machine Project continues and both primary and secondary students were visited by a representative today to explain the next stages of the Project. Well done to all the students involved and a special congratulations to the chosen Dream Machine Design - The Extinction Clock, of which the prototype will be made in the next round. We cannot wait to see it!

This week bookings opened for parent-teacher interviews, following the Term 2 Primary Specialist Reports (including Early Years). Reports contain teacher feedback on student progress in the subjects of:

  • MFL French and Slovene (Foundation/Non-native)
  • Dance and Music
  • P.E.

Please ensure that you book to see teachers. You may wish to bring along your child so that they can be a part of discussions.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend,

Mrs Železinger

We will contact parents immediately if there are any further developments and continue to our best wishes from the BISL community.

News from Year 2

Year 2 made a fantastic start to the new block! We had an exciting week with celebrating Pust. Year 2 decided that they would like to be characters from our favourite class book 'The Day the Crayons Quit' - therefore we all dressed as different coloured crayons.

Ms Harris

News from Year 3

On Tuesday, Year 3 spent the day at Institut 4.0, where they built and programmed their own Lego robots. They did so dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland, to celebrate Pust Festival. Thank you to everyone who contributed to a great day out.

Mr Mulcahy

News from Year 6

In this Block the Year 6 children will be reading Michael Morpurgo’s 'I believe in Unicorns’ story. The Year 6 classes with the help of Mrs Charlesworth have scoured the school Library to create our own Michael Morpurgo’s corner to support this Unit. We want to give students the opportunity to access his work but also to learn more about this author.

Mr Kokalj

News from Upper Primary

Looking for fun ways to encourage reading in upper Primary, we decided this Block's reading project would be a T-shirt book report. Year 5 and 6 students were to read a book and then complete a book report on a T-shirt, including a summary, a description of the characters and setting, the author and title, and an important/ favourite scene from the book. Many of the students wore their hard work with pride; come upstairs BISL Middle School to see what they have done.

Mrs Charlesworth

Thank you Mr Blease!

We would like to show our deepest gratitude to Mr Blease, who has been at this school since its first day and has had the privilege of teaching many students during the last twelve years. Mr Blease will continue to work in education as a school teacher trainer in Bangladesh, through the Ministry of Education and The British Council, in order to help raise the standard of primary education in the country.

We wish Mr Blease all the best on his new adventure and look forward to his shared experiences.
