Dear reader,
As we embark of the final block of the year, I’m reminded of the Bob Dylan song “The Times They Are A-Changin’”.
You’ve already seen that work has started on the new top floor, which will greatly improve our internal space and layout for next year. This did mean we had to rearrange our breaks for a while, but once the scaffolding and fencing was put in place and with work going on outside of school hours, these have largely been able to return to normal. Thanks must also go to the staff and parents for so smoothly adjusting to the procedures for parking and drop-off. Clearance is well underway in our new woodland area and, though it will not be completely finished until the summer, we’ll already be using this area for a number of learning and recreational activities during our final Block.
As you know, I will be leaving Slovenia after the end of the school year. As part of our handover process, the incoming Principal, Mr. Paul Walton will be in Slovenia at the start of the coming Block and you are warmly invited to a “Meet & Greet” coffee afternoon with him in the Year 6 classroom on Tuesday 29 May from 14:30.
I am delighted that our Swim Days have started, at Atlantis, and these will be continuing into June. As well, there are many trips, across all sections of the school, in the coming Block – some for just a day, others residential, and I’m sure you will join me in wishing every success to our team heading to Kuala Lumpur to take part in the global round of the World Scholars’ Cup.
There’s also lots going on in and around school, from the annual Progress Tests to class assemblies, and we’re all really looking forward to this year’s performances of Grease on 7 and 8 June.
In the other articles, and on our website and social media pages, you can see many of the events that have taken place over the last block. Of these, I must highlight our fantastic International Day, which the PTA organised. We were blessed with good weather so we could enjoy the stalls, the food and the socialising outside. I would like to take this opportunity once again to thank the PTA and all those involved in this and all the other events that support the school so admirably.
So, as I opened, the times they are a-changin’, but it’s a really exciting time to be here at BISL!
Best regards,
Karl Wilkinson, Principal
