Briefly describe your journey as a teacher.
I have always been a keen learner and a good observer who was interested and eager to find different methods to learn. Through my schooling I had a study buddy role and have volunteered in different educational organizations and tutored during my university years. It has always been the case that what you enjoy doing ends up being your calling. I have helped organize and teach at a summer school in Gambia, Africa. Teaching English whose first language was not English in a country across the ocean has broth new insights of learning. I have started working as a Special needs teacher in the Slovene education system and have been suggested to BISL by my mentor. Here is where I got to know innovative teaching and curious learning in depth.
Why did you decide to specialize in Special needs?
Special education came naturally to me. Love towards children and learning, interest in analyzing and fining the reasons behind a specific learning outcome has led me to my studies. I continue to develop my interest in brain development and the influence of the environment on an individual. What makes BISL such a unique place to work?
BISL provides a unique environment encouraging and challenging the whole community to strive for excellence, individual as well as group. The innovative teaching, use of interesting recourses paired with strong relationships build an environment in which all are motivated to do best. Developing lifelong learning, critical thinking, responsibility and integrity is very high on BISL's values system. Our students are curious, creative, honest and open-minded. This makes our work as teachers enjoyable.
How would you describe a typical day at BISL?
A typical day at BISL is always interesting as no day is the same. The morning starts with joy as the children see their friends and teachers and exchange the morning wake-up talks. Everybody gets ready for the first morning lessons, generally core subject lessons. The buzz of students and teachers discussing learning and teaching is present. We enjoy having two short breaks during our day and finish it with different activities and development meetings.
What is the best part of your day at BISL?
I like the mornings in which I start getting ready for my day. Usually, any changes that happen throughout the day are communicated in the morning, as we all set our focus for the day. I believe that teachers like best when we see students exited to learn and happy to see us again, on yet another interesting day.
Why is the experience of an international education important for a student?
International education equips learners for the ever-changing world we live in today. The experience in which learners develop their flexibility, problem solving skills, the ability to adapt to changes and challenges are welcomed in today's world of education and workforce. The influence of different cultural backgrounds is highly valuable and irreplicable.
