Pust is one of the most important days in the Slovene calendar, celebrated across the country with colourful dresses and costumes. As an international school, we get to share many Lent and Easter traditions from countries around the world, as well as embracing our own here in Slovenia. We value diversity here at BISL and enjoy celebrating our cultures with each other, and our students are always keen to share their traditions and customs with their peers.
We often think of ways to unite our cultures and bring us closer together, so to kick start the English block we set the students a Haiku challenge to write a poem about their Lent traditions, whether it be the Pust carnival, Pancake day or Fat Thursday.
What is a Haiku?
A Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five. Enjoy a selection of Haikus below, written by our students.
