As an international school, we have many new students joining us each year and it is always interesting to hear about their experience during this exciting transition.

I am a new student who has come to Secondary school and joined Year 9, and my first experiences at the school have been really positive. BISL is such a wonderful and welcoming community with their own activities which can help you in the future to gain skills such as:

  • confidence,
  • independence,
  • managing your feelings,
  • resilience,
  • determination,
  • positive relationships,
  • leadership skills,
  • creativity,
  • adaptability,
  • problem-solving and
  • organisation.

These are the main ones I feel are needed in the future in order to prepare you for University and life beyond BISL. The school also provides amazing robotics resources, student council opportunities and MEPI (The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award) which is one of the best programs in the world, and many more clubs and programs which you can be a part of. These are the ones that I am attending for now and for me, they provide such a wide perspective of the world and possibilities.

My day after I come in the morning, is checking in with my Form tutors for registration, where I receive updates with the class before heading off to my lessons. I know this might sound strange but in the morning my favourite part is when we have Math! This sounds crazy I know, I would have probably said the same thing 3 weeks ago but I am really enjoying Maths class, as our Maths teacher is the best I have ever had! She explains everything so well and she even goes an extra mile for us and makes her own little instructional youtube videos so it is there to look back on whenever we are studying or just want to recap. I have to say I love Maths now, I am always looking forward to it and never scared to ask a question if I don’t know something. There are so many subjects like this that I love! For Slovene currently, we are working on a project where we get to make our own video about how to help the world and reduce littering. This is for a competition that we have the opportunity to be a part of. The lunches are really good, and I enjoy socialising with my friends during this time. Overall, it has been a great new beginning for me, meeting my teachers and making friends. I really like the school curriculum and the way school life is approached overall at BISL, and I am looking forward to the rest of the year.
