Dear Parents,
Following the announcement yesterday regarding the changes in general guidance and Kindergartens, we are moving to the next stage of our planning, which will mean the school building will be at less than 10% capacity for health & safety.
Attendance
This week our attendance on site has been fantastic, over 80% each day.
Measures in Place
- All Secondary Students and Year 6 will continue to follow online learning.
- Years 3 – 5 will also transition to online learning from Monday 26 October, in line with current Ministry of Education measures.
- All meetings and gatherings have been moved online, including all parent meetings.
- Weekly updates are being sent to parents from the Class Teachers/Form Tutors.
- The school continues to have a daily clean in the morning and again in the afternoon by our professional cleaning crew to maintain high standards of hygiene.
- Teachers have temperature checks taken systematically.
- Teachers get tested if they develop symptoms.
Urgent Communication
All urgent updates continue to be sent via email.
Please monitor your emails for future updates as this continues to be the best way to send out clear and consistent communication to all parents. Check that you are receiving emails, have enough space in your email folder, that they do not go to your 'junk' folder and if you are unsure, please contact reception@britishschool.si to check your contact email and phone number on record. If you change any contact details, please inform the school immediately.
If you have any specific questions about the learning in your child’s year group, please contact the Class Teacher/Form Tutor first.
PTA Committee
Thank you to those who were able to join the Online PTA Meeting this week, it was lovely to be able to chat to you and hear your opinions. The role of the Parent Teacher Association is invaluable at school, and although at the moment your involvement on the school site may be limited, we continue to believe in the importance of bringing our parents together in enhancing the opportunities for our students, your children.
As mentioned during the meeting, if you are interested in becoming a member of the BISL Parent Teacher Association, please complete this interest form to let us know by Friday 23rd October.

We aim to engage our parent community further via an existing PTA Facebook group - please go ahead and join this group if you would like to keep up to date with PTA information, volunteer opportunities and projects. The name of the Facebook group is British International School Of Ljubljana PTA VOLUNTEERS - you’ll be able to search for the group and ask to be added by one of our parent admins.
Halloween Dress Down Day
One of the first items on our PTA agenda is of course Halloween Dress Down Day, coming up next Friday 30th October. Despite the current circumstances, we would like to make this a fully inclusive event for all of our students, so similar to last year:
- Whether online or on site, students and staff are encouraged to wear a Halloween themed fancy dress costume or the colour black.
- Food and Snacks: At this point, for health & safety, the sharing of food is not allowed, therefore unfortunately we cannot accept any delicious Halloween snacks to be brought in by parents for sharing on the day unless it is arranged through a professional catering company who follow stringent hygiene guidelines. Liaise with your class teacher to arrange this.
- Pumpkin Carving was a huge success last year, so we’d like to encourage all parents to take a photograph of or send in your home creations to school between October 26-30, either with your child in the morning or by dropping them off with Security during the day for our students to enjoy.
- Decorations: on Wednesday 28th October between 3pm - 5pm, if you would like to bring in any Halloween decorations, please email Mr Walton for an appointment and further instructions to allow you to adhere to our health & safety measures as we collaborate to make this event as fun as possible for our students.
BISL Featured on Total Slovenia News
Our school has been featured recently on Total Slovenia News in response to the positive and professional way in which this new transition to online learning has been handled since government measures were introduced. I am very proud of the way in which our community of parents, students and staff have all worked together as we navigate our way through these challenging times, and it is wonderful to be able to share this with our wider community.
It has been wonderful to see so many colourful posts on our Facebook page of this blended online- and onsite-learning phase, I do hope you have enjoyed these too. And to receive your many positive comments and messages has been uplifting both for myself and our teachers. I am also very glad to hear that the students who have tested positive are doing well. I have sent a personal video message to individual families with our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Wishing you a safe and relaxing weekend.
Kind regards,
Paul Walton
