It was lovely to see so many excited readers out there, sharing their love of books and Christmas wonder with their classes on Monday.
Thanks to the Primary Student Council for organising this fantastic event, beginning with the idea coming from the Year 2 class representatives and blossoming into cheering from all of the Primary Student Council representatives to getting their classes involved. Shaun's poster encouraged students and staff to bring snuggly blankets and toys to the reading sessions, as well as some wonderful books.
Not only did they read some classic holiday stories, some of our students even came up with their own to share with they peers. Here is a lovely story written by one of our Year 5 students.
The Christmas Wonder, by Jan
There was a boy called Tommy Right. You may think it's a weird name for a boy but there is a purpose for this name, he was always right. His name is God who always did the right things. And when he was born he did nice things too. The boy was the only kind of name alive; it was a miracle. So he got the name. But he never knew that. It was kept secret from Tommy Right.
It was Christmas Eve and Tommy Right was cooking with his mum. He was cooking the most magical gingerbread house. It was a golden orange crust and would shine in the sun. Tommy loved making christmas cookies and gingerbread houses.
He was tired and went up the stairs. The stairs were long and narrow and the oak wood was glistening in the sunlight. Tommy went upstairs and went to draw. Tommy looked out of the window and there he saw the most beautiful, magical and colorful SNOW. He ran back down the stairs and asked his mum if he could go outside. His mum told him, “Yes.” He ran outside and saw the magnificent snow. It was as smooth as a tile and as soft as a bunny. He thought he was dreaming. He could not believe it. Tommy started to make a snowman, it was the best thing on Earth.
Soon, it was dark and he ran inside the house. His mum told him that Gramma wanted to play some games. The game he was playing with his grandma was called “Bingo” . He and his grandma loved the game. He sat next to the fireplace and now it was time for him to go to bed.
But that night was no ordinary night and he was not going to go to bed. He went down the stairs and hid in the Christmas tree. Soon, he heard some sounds on the roof. The sounds were as big as a thumping elephant and shook the house. He understood that it was Santa! He felt a shiver down his spine although joy spread on his face; fear mixed with excitement. But when he looked at the fireplace, it was still lit; the fire was a dark zircon and a hessonite ruby red. Tommy ran to get a bucket filled with water. When he put out the fire the sizzle ran through the fire making tiny fireworks. Santa heard the sounds and just threw the presents down the chimney. The presents were crashing down at a tremendous speed, so Tommy ran into the fireplace and caught the presents before they landed in the darkened charcoal. Suddenly he heard his dad coming down at advanced speed. Tommy ran up the stairs and jumped into bed.
Tommy Right’s name was going to change because he would see Santa. But he proved it to be Right.
Thank you to all of those that read on Monday and to those that enjoyed listening to the stories, and congratulations to our Primary Student Council for yet another successful event.
