A word from Mrs Železinger
Today we celebrated the Student Appreciation Day! Various activities were organised and prepared by the students themselves, including teaching their teachers new languages or skills and leading classroom activities for peers. Primary students took advantage of a longer morning break and participated in different games prepared by the Year 5 Playground Leaders. During assembly, students thought about ways in which language skills of reading, speaking, writing and listening, may be useful for future employment and occupations. Year 6 students stepped in their teachers’ shoes and dealt with student and teacher behaviour using conflict-resolution techniques. Students received notes and cards from their teachers, and cheered their teachers during assembly star performances.
I would like to thank all of BISL students for their hard work and for making us smile every day.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Železinger

News from Early Years
Early Years are really enjoying their Traditional Tales Topic. So far we have read The Gingerbread Man, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. This week we had a special guest in our classroom.
A parent kindly came to visit us to read us a traditional tale from Slovenia. We learned about the Kurent - a carnival figure celebrated throughout Slovenia during the Pust celebration. We listened to the wonderful story of Mali kurent and we even got to see a special Kurent mask from the region of Ptuj.
Very exciting!

This week in Y3 we explored different ways to subtract numbers, including the counting back and column methods. In English, we described different fictional settings, using our senses to do so and in topic we had tonnes of fun learning a Russian Folksong 'Kalinka', which we will perform in next week's assembly. We also drew Matryoshka dolls and painted concentric circles in art, inspired by the artist Wassily Kandinsky. Stay tuned next week for more updates on our discovery of 'People and Places'.
