As part of an initiative to challenge students and to prepare them fully for the rigorous trial of A Level Mathematics, certain students in Year 11 were given the opportunity to sit their IGCSE Mathematics external examination early on in the academic year, in November 2019 as opposed to June 2020. Amongst those students was Chloe.

As Chloe joined the school in August 2019, there was the immediate challenge of gaining an awareness of the topics that would be assessed, how the questions would be worded, what techniques would need to be used and, of course, Chloe had to practise many past examination questions leading up to the examination. The results for these November 2019 examinations were received recently and it was revealed that the students who were entered in for this examination series obtained 100% grade A to A*, an incredible achievement. However, the results also revealed that Chloe scored in the top 1% amongst all the students who entered this examination.

The Year 11 students who passed their IGCSE examination are now preparing themselves for A level Mathematics, starting in Year 12, by studying the Additional Mathematics course. This course is not only excellent preparation for A level, but it also introduces students to previously unseen techniques and it challenges the students as the work is pitched on a very high level.

“Since joining the school, Chloe has been extremely hard working and diligent in her efforts to adjust to a new system of learning and assessment. It comes as no surprise that Chloe was assessed as being amongst the top 1% in the world of those who took the IGCSE Mathematics. She, along with her classmates Luka and Rosemarijn, are now studying the very challenging IGCSE Additional Mathematics in preparation for A level Mathematics as all three students achieved highly in their IGCSE Extended Mathematics examination taken in November 2019. It has been a pleasure to have Chloe in my classroom. Watch this space, I have no doubt we will be hearing of her impressive achievements again in the near future, “said Mr Batson.

Before the exams, I went through the whole book with my classmates, and did some past paper questions of different topics. As a result, I got very good results, and I am very glad about it and feel that all effort is worth it.” Chloe

Congratulations to all students for their very good results!
