Each year at BISL, we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week with a powerful and uplifting focus on the importance of community. Through a variety of thoughtful activities, students were encouraged to reflect on how our relationships and everyday interactions shape our wellbeing — and how, by supporting one another, we create a more caring and connected school environment.
Throughout the week, students across all year groups participated in assemblies and classroom sessions that sparked meaningful conversations around emotions, empathy, and kindness. One of the highlights was the creation of emotion wheels, which helped students to identify and express how they feel in a more nuanced way — an essential step in understanding and managing emotions.
Our younger students engaged in writing positive affirmations for themselves, learning the value of self-kindness and inner encouragement. Many also took part in acts of kindness, both big and small, from offering a helping hand to classmates to simply sharing a smile.
The activities this week reminded us all that mental health is not just an individual journey — it thrives in connection. Whether through listening, reaching out, or simply being present, we all have the power to positively impact someone else's day.
As we wrap up Mental Health Awareness Week, we are inspired to keep the conversation going. Together, we can continue building a kind, respectful, and supportive community — not just during Mental Health Awareness Week, but every day.
