A word from Miss Andronikos
Students are working hard all the way to the finish, as they complete their final exams and receive precious feedback on their progress this week. There is still much to be done in these last few weeks before the Summer officially begins. ‘Finish strongly’ is the message for all to abide by, to make the most of these weeks.
In preparation for the summer break and the new year, I am so pleased to announce that whilst we plan a current upgrade to the uniform shop, further advice for families has been created when it comes to purchasing shoes again in the summer for all students. Please click here for the shoe guide for all Secondary students. To make the expectations as clear as possible, guidance for socks and stockings has been also updated and streamlined for August. This is to unify students and minimise confusion. When shopping in the coming months for the new year, please ensure that this shoe guide is considered carefully. Further announcements about the upgraded uniform shop will be released shortly, so that BISL clothing can too be purchased for the new year. Further non-BISL clothing purchases are discouraged, as all options will be available in the new shop and expected to be worn by all students in the coming new year.
I hope that all families can enjoy a bit of sunshine this weekend, and I wish the MEPI students all the absolute best out on their expedition.

PE News
This week, students have been adapting to PE lessons indoors due to the bad weather. This did not stop the students getting active. Students across secondary have been involved in tabata workouts and futsal.
Students were rewarded for their efforts with a movie called 'Eddie the Eagle'. The film highlights the true story about the British ski jumper Eddie Edwards, and how he made it to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

This week Year 7 worked on a unit where they had to find information from a poster about a performance of the musical Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat. They also had the opportunity to write a review of a performance of their own choice which they really enjoyed working on.
Year 8A are working their way through Private Peaceful, this week exploring the context in which the novel is set. Pupils have been analysing what made people join the war effort, as well as how poetry was used as a propaganda tool in the First World War.
Year 8B worked on a unit about a musical show called “The Beggar’s Opera / The Threepenny Opera” featuring the famous song “Mack the knife” and were introduced to the famous Cockney Rhyming Slang.
Year 9 has begun reading a Sherlock Holmes story entitled "A Scandal in Bohemia", exploring the writer's use of language and how Arthur Conan Doyle portrayed his characters in what are considered some of the best detective stories of all time.
Year 10 delivered presentations on their poetry anthology and have also been writing stories for their Narrative Writing Unit, concentrating on plot, characters and setting. The stories have been very enjoyable to read, and exemplify the writing prowess and wonderful imaginations of our Year 10 pupils.

Music
Last week I mentioned the wonderful performances and compositions submitted by the AS Music students. This week I would like to mention the excellent work submitted by the IGCSE music students. One performance that stood out for me was Chloe providing the piano accompaniment for her mother playing the Guzheng. Both candidates submitted interesting compositions with Alex's dubstep inspired video game music worthy of a mention.

SEN Department News
Last, but not least, Science is in focus as the theme of this block. Secondary students have tried hand-on activities experimenting in the Science Lab at the beginning of the block. Teachers have tried to incorporate different activities in their lessons to stretch the students and present challenges. The best challenges are cross-curricular as the students have to use the knowledge already acquired in the new context or link it with a new subject. Project work is an area in which students can practice their teamwork skills as well as leadership skills. We've used resources from Science week (be sure to check scienceweek.net.au) and encourage parents to try some of the activities at home. Very informative and a lot of fun.
