Celebrating Humanities in Block 2

Throughout the school students have learned about the importance of Humanities subjects in understanding our world and ourselves. Humanities teach empathy, they teach our students to deal critically and logically with subjective, complex, imperfect information and to weigh evidence skeptically and consider more than one side of every question, thus developing critical global citizens.

We had Year 9 students research on the many empires that have ruled throughout history and create some amazing displays about how they changed the world. Students from Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in a Humanities House Quiz where they competed against each other to answer a series of historical, geographical and computer science related questions.

To tie in with Halloween, we created some mysterious “Dark Stories” posters which drew attention to some bizarre, unbelievable and outright crazy events in history that had the students’ brains working on trying to figure out what happened!

Finally, In Year 10, Global Perspectives students debated the pros and cons of globalisation and how it has affected different people and places.

We now hand over the baton and look forward to celebrating Performing Arts in Block 3!
