Last Friday, we held a whole school Remembrance Day Commemoration in honour of all those who sacrificed their tomorrow for our many freedoms today.
Poppies have been available at our reception in the month leading up to Remembrance Day on November 11, with all proceeds going to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made a kind donation to this worthwhile initiative.
Since last Monday, our students have been busy preparing for our Remembrance Day Commemoration on Friday. Everyone made personalised poppies, as well as a Banksy-inspired Poppy display for the reception area. Even our Early Years students joined in, collaboratively working together to create one giant Poppy.
During the day on Friday, our students listened to informative presentations and readings, completed various activities, and everyone observed a minute's silence to pay our respects. Our Year 5s wrote some beautiful poetry in their lessons, and presented them to family and peers. Below is a very meaningful example from two of our brilliant students.
Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life, and as we take a moment to reflect on the past and look to the future, it has been wonderful for me to see everyone getting so actively involved in this commemoration together as a school. Thank you to all staff, students and parents for your donations to the Poppy Appeal.
Paul Walton, PrincipalWe look forward to continuing this tradition at BISL, and joining the Poppy Appeal again next year.
