What better way for us to finish Block 6, than with a fantastic international celebration - starting with a colourful Opening Ceremony on Tuesday and culminating in a vibrant International Fair on Friday!
The Opening Ceremony kickstarted our International Days with a wonderfully colourful flag parade, celebrating over 40 different nationalities represented here at BISL. It was great to be able to celebrate these events together once again, as well as streaming the ceremony live via Zoom for everyone to watch. A gallery of photos and the recording of the live ceremony is available in our Opening Ceremony article here.
Thank you to those parent volunteers who gave up their time to come into school to do a cultural activity with their child's class during the week - we had everything from Belgian comics to stories in Slovene and it was a fantastic experience for our students.
Our Primary Student Council designed brilliant Passports for everyone to decorate and take around the country stalls during Friday's International Fair, getting stamps at each stall when answering the questions correctly to the PTA's fun Nations Quiz.
There was also a whole-school flag scavenger hunt which the students enjoyed throughout the week, following clues as they went around the school to find the correct flags displayed all over.
As a community, we have been very much looking forward to our International Fair, as it was our first big event of the year, and one that we were finally able to celebrate together, with only a few restrictions. Despite the weather, the assembly hall was transformed into a room filled with vibrant culture, with 14 country stalls from Nicaragua all the way to Japan! The stalls had some great activities set up for the students to enjoy, and the food, as always, was delicious.
Take a look:
The performances were equally phenomenal, with Year 5 and 6 on the African drums, and Year 1 singing and dancing to our chosen International Days Song, Wavin' Flag.
It is a privilege to have such a supportive group of parents here at BISL, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the PTA and our wonderful parents who have put so much effort into organising this amazing event for our community, thank you.
We look forward to celebrate more successful events together in the near future!
