A word from Ms Andronikos

Block 1 Week 5

For the last week of the block, the Secondary school looked further into the BISL value of Empathy, highlighting that everyone reacts differently when exposed to various situations. How others perceive a particular situation can be vastly different from your own perceptions. Being aware of others and their feelings is so important when working with others at school, in the workplace or in life.

Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another.”

- Alfred Adler

Also, this week saw the last of the Adventure Trips for Autumn with the Year 11 to 13 students going to Kranjska Gora. A big thank you to Mr Damjan, Mr Irving, Ms Ross and Ms Godec for attending the trip. A special thank you must go to Mr Damjan for organising and attending all Adventure Trips this block. Your organisation has been superb!

The Maths block wrapped up this week with the weekly problem solving competition and the Pi recital competition led by Mr Batson. Congratulations to Ewa in Year 11 who remembered Pi to an incredible 64 decimal places! Well done!

With Block One now coming to a close, it has been a big start to the year with much to celebrate and reflect upon over the break. The students are looking fantastic in their new uniforms and many new faces were welcomed to school. It has been a productive start to the year and to all families, I wish a restful and productive break.

I look forward to seeing everyone back in Block Two,

Stephanie Andronikos

PE News - Adventure Days for Year 11 - 13

The last of our Autumn Adventure Trips took place this week on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th where the students set off on a hike from Kranjska Gora.

Here are some photos that have just arrived from the current Year 11, 12 and 13 trip.

Slovene

This weekend, on the 26th of September, we celebrate the 18th European Day of Languages. Secondary students have been discussing their mother tongues during the assembly time. They were keen to teach each other some of the basics of their languages. They even shared a joke in their mother tongue. We realised just how proud we are of our own cultural roots from all over the world.

The secondary students have also researched specific sounds words and phrases in different European languages make, in addition to trying to translate a very famous song - See you again into Slovenian language. Here you can see them discussing their results.

Maths News

It's the end of the Maths theme block, so I would just like to say thank you to all the staff and students who got involved. Well done to all those who managed to answer the Maths problems successfully (special recognition will be coming your way) and I'm sure you all enjoyed putting your grey cells to the test. A special mention needs to go to Ewa in Year 11, who managed to recall the number Pi to an incredible 64 digits, well done to you! Even though the Maths theme is over, don't panic, as well as your epic Maths lessons continuing of course, there will also be Maths problems in the newsletter starting next block. Thank you once again to everyone who took part.

We would also like to share a wonderful example of a student’s work in Year 9 to show just how hard we have been working so far this year.

Principal's Update

Dear Parents,

Today we have celebrated ‘House Day’ at school. Our House days are designed to bring the community together in different ways, across year groups and schools, to foster further collaboration, social interaction and discussion. Also, of course, House points! As well as opportunities to embrace competitions and various activities.

Further information will be sent out regarding COVID safety measures after all guidance is checked through the block break. With cases rising even higher, this gives us time to further plan and prepare for different circumstances. All our online courses will be reviewed again during the block break.

Thank you to all parents for your patience, support, and flexibility as we have ended our Block 1. Overall, it has been very successful in many ways with an abundance of positivity, energy, new friendships, and some wonderful learning experiences.

Thank you for making this such a good first block and I hope you have a restful, relaxing and recharging week.

Kind regards,
