A word from Ms Andronikos

Block 1 Week 3

The week started with a virtual assembly celebrating the Mathematics block. Every week, students are vying for house points and the Mathematics award up for grabs at the end of the block as they solve the problem of the week in every assembly. There will also be a Pi reciting competition at the end of the block; the world record holder recited Pi to 70 000 place values and it took 10 hours! Always setting the bar high, Mr. Batson, Head of Mathematics is keen to see what BISL students of all ages can do!

Another important aspect of the week, was the invitation for any student who feel that they display the qualities of a leader, live by the values of the school and are a good role model for other students to look up to, to apply for the roles of Student Council member, House Captain, Prefect or Head boy and Head girl. In these roles, students will be responsible and involved in various aspects of school life, be confident and respectful with very good communication skills. Students who are keen for these roles need to register their interest and will be decided before the end of the block. Good luck to all students applying for these leadership positions.

Additionally, this week, the Year 7 & 8 students went to the seaside. It was a great trip, challenging students in their physical and lifestyle skills. Thank you to the teachers who cared for our students. Next week the Year 9 and 10 students are going on their Adventure Trip. The teachers attending are Mr Damjan, Mr Irving, Ms Clayton and Mr Kirwan. I wish those teachers and students the very best for a safe trip.

I wish all families a wonderful and safe weekend.

Adventure Days for Year 7 and Year 8

Dear Parents and Students,

I am pleased to announce our Autumn adventure Trip for Year 9 and Year 10 will take place from Thursday 17 - Friday 18 September 2020.

The adventure trip will last 2 days, so students will need to arrive at school by 07:45 on Thursday morning and will return around 17:00 on Friday.

Please make arrangements for their collection from the school around that time.

Adventure trips build self-confidence, team spirit, cooperation among peers and independence as well as serving to provide the physical exercise in the great outdoors that students do not often get in the city. As a school we strive for academic excellence, however, nurturing the emotional, spiritual, and physical growth of all our students is equally important.

The students will be accompanied by four members of staff:

  • Mr Anže Damjan (Trip Leader)
  • Mr Simon Irving
  • Ms Fushia Clayton
  • Mr Kieran Kirwan

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Anže Damjan

PE News

This week in PE students have been exploring the use of technology in sport. They have evaluated the use of technology in a range of sports and thought about the advantages and disadvantages of using sport technology to test their own levels of fitness. Students specifically used an App called HomeCourt where they tested their lateral quickness, reaction time, and cross court fitness. They worked fantastically within teams to achieve the highest team score possible

Please be reminded that all students should now be wearing the BISL PE uniform. This is mandatory in all PE lessons. Our Year 9 student, Nanoko, shows perfectly how the PE uniform should be worn and has even created her own creative way to store her school uniform during PE lessons.

This week we have been discussing ourselves and our families in Year 10 and Year 11. The students did an excellent job with their work. They presented their family through diverse activities such as a comic book, song, story, Instagram page, interview ...

There were so many ways to show their potential and creativity. Super!

Principal's Update

Dear Parents,

It has been a very busy week at school as we have continued to plan online lessons alongside following a normal timetable. I would like to recognise this hard work from the staff across the school who are currently preparing, organising and thinking ahead. In the last week, we have seen the number of COVID-19 cases in the second wave rise in Slovenia (over 70 new cases in each of the last two days), we’ve had nearly 190,000 students across the country return to school this month and the recommendations from the ministry of health have remained at a very high level.

Due to this information, we have maintained our guidance in place for everyone to follow. It is tempting to reduce areas and offer more quickly, but with safety the priority, it is imperative that we think of everyone in the community. I can appreciate that we will have differing opinions on safety measures such as masks, hygiene, and even handshaking, through to social distancing, but we have to make a decision that is in the best interests of everyone in our community.

Please continue reading my full update here with further details about safety measures, drop off and pick up procedure reminders, Adventure Days, Learning Walks and more.

Kind regards,

Paul Walton
