As part of our Performing Arts theme in Block 3, we will feature a series of students as our Musicians in Focus.

Chloe, Year 11

I am Chloe from Year 11, I play the piano and I will complete my IGCSEs at the British International School of Ljubljana this summer.

I started playing the piano when I was only 6, and I have been practicing and breaking through myself since then. I have passed the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade 8 with Distinction, and I am currently planning to take an ABRSM exam for which I need to prepare a recital of music from different periods. The music I like the most, apart from pop, is classical music from the romantic period. My favourites are Chopin and some of Ravel’s impressionist pieces.

Aleks, Year 11

My name is Aleks and I am an IGCSE Music student at the British International School of Ljubljana. My main music interests are singing, playing the piano, as well as playing the guitar, and most importantly, my biggest focus is production. My production skills are developing and evolving and since I produce electronic music, more specifically ‘dubstep’ which is sub-genre of electronic music, my main inspirations are Skrillex, Virtual Riot and Monxx. My passion for Djing is also there and I will try to establish my name in the business as such.

I attended piano music school for 6 years with an additional 2 years of jazz music school. I am also still part of an opera singing school, Matica, in which I just finished my 4th year. In September 2019, I began to learn how to play electronic guitar, which I will incorporate with my production.

With Mr. Austin and Chloe this year we are focusing on finishing chapters in our IGCSE book. Lessons are productive and fun. Me and Chloe also enjoy composition and production which are crucial for our upcoming examinations. We are both pretty nervous, but as long as we enjoy, study and practise, our results will be more than positive!
