Since our school moved from the physical to virtual classrooms, our students have been very busy. Our Early Years Foundation Stage students have been no exception! Over the last weeks, we have seen some great work done by our young learners and we received some great positive feedback from both the students and their parents.

Our Early Years team have planned and shared a variety of different activities for the students, which they have also supported with videos and live sessions. Here are just some examples of these:

  • Phonics games, supported with sound games videos
  • Story time, complemented with video stories
  • Science experiments
  • Slovene lessons, enhanced with videos of Slovene stories and songs
  • Guess the animal games, following their current Topic - Animals
  • Cooking demonstrations that students can do at home (with a little help from parents)
  • Outdoor maths challenges
  • Learning about rainforests, creating their own rainforest habitats
  • Challenge to create charts of their favourite pets as part of their Animals Topic
  • Photo challenge – Prepositions of Place
  • Maths tasks: number bonds to 10
  • Joining in for our community project: We’re going on a Bear Hunt

They’ve certainly been keeping busy with these exciting activities, projects and challenges.

Our Early Years students also started their live lessons, and we have been blown away by how well they all behaved and the enthusiasm they have all demonstrated. Every time our teachers turn the video conference on, they are all sitting with their pencils and paper, their "listening ears" and "looking eyes", ready and excited to start learning! These live sessions include:

  • Daily Phonics, Literacy and Maths morning sessions with teachers, linked to their current Animals Topic.
  • Creative activities to develop fine motor skills, such as drawing, cutting, building and so on.
  • Active games developing gross motor skills via PE and Dance exercises.
  • Story Time and Show and Tell sessions to develop language skills connected to Literacy and Topic.
The children have been able to listen to each other and take turns to speak, all while interacting with each activity and, of course, having fun. It is a pleasure to teach them. Even during these difficult times, they are still making us laugh and making us very proud teachers!
Early Years Team

Our aim is to provide as normal a learning day as possible, one that is both educational, inspiring, fun and exciting. It is an absolute pleasure to receive photos and videos of the children’s work, to see their enthusiasm and excitement during the live sessions and read the wonderful messages they share with us.
