World Scholar’s Cup

We participated in the World Scholar’s Cup for only our second year. We came away from the event both with some fantastic individual results and as the first place school in the entire region. For a complete list of individual results click here and once again congratulations to all those involved.

Slovenian

We were treated to a very entertaining and illuminating performance by a number of our students from years 7 to 11 in honour of France Prešeren Day. The program included Slovenian poems, songs and an accomplished short film prepared by some of our Yr 11 students - as well as some comedic short sketches.

English

This block our Key Stage 3 students began blogging! Students in English were given the opportunity to blog about any topic they were passionate about. All their work was published on the secure platform "kidblog" which allowed them to share either with their classmates or the wider public. They were also encouraged to comment on each others posts and give feedback also. All posts are moderated by members of staff. You can follow the different blogs by visiting our new twitter account - @BislBloggers

PE

Block 4 saw the introduction of Floorball, an exciting and fast-growing sport that combines skills of other competitive sports such as hockey, football and tennis.

All our Secondary students also took part in some very enjoyable ski trips to Austria. It was reported that a great time was had by all who participated.

French

Year 9 French students wrote replies to letters they had received from their French Penfriends. They had to prepare a short presentation on themselves in French and are eagerly awaiting the return correspondence.

Geography

Year 7, 8 and 9 have completed their Geography topic display work. We now have several new display boards where we plan to showcase the best Geography work and use as it a teaching and learning resource (not just for decoration!). The students all made one or two display pieces on the block 4 topics, and then evaluated them and chose which ones to display. All the display boards will be populated early in block 5. Please take the time to come and have a look if you wish.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form hosted Year 11 parents at our final 'Move up' session before students were asked to submit their Expression of Interest forms. We will use their subject choices to plan A levels for the next academic year.

Blood drives

During this block a number of members of staff, secondary students and parents participated in donating blood. Thank you to everyone for supporting this valuable cause.

Block 5 brings us many exciting events that contribute to our school experience; sporting events, fundraisers for the graduation ceremony, an exciting Science competition, curriculum-linked excursion for KS 3 and 4 students and parent-teacher evenings towards the end of the block. Please check our weekly Secondary Newsletter to be up to speed with all the relevant dates and information related to various events and activities.

On behalf of the Secondary team, I wish everyone an exciting and rewarding block.

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.
