Science Week brought a fantastic range of exciting opportunities for our students to get involved in.

At break times, students explored density towers, tested gases, observed vibrant flame tests, and experienced the dramatic “whoosh bottle.” The ever-popular plasma balls and Van de Graaff generator added an extra buzz, quite literally bringing static electricity to life.

A particularly electrifying Physics demonstration saw students investigating electric fields using the Van de Graaff generator. Woollen strings lifted and spread apart like strands of charged hair, repelling one another under electrostatic force. The excitement peaked when a metal electrode was introduced, creating miniature lightning strikes as the generator discharged, echoing the power of a real thunderstorm.

Beyond the experiments, students also gained valuable insight into their futures. We were delighted to host two external speakers who shared guidance on A-level subject choices, university pathways, and careers in science, leaving many feeling inspired about the possibilities ahead.

One of the standout moments of the week was a heart dissection workshop led by five exceptional students from Years 11, 12, and 13 for our Year 6 pupils. Their confidence, knowledge, and enthusiasm turned the session into a truly memorable learning experience. A huge thank you to them for their dedication and willingness to share their passion for science.
