International Mother Language Day reminds us that every language matters. Whether spoken by millions or by a small community, each is a living treasure chest of identity and culture. At BISL, we celebrate this day by taking part in various different activities.
The day began with a special assembly, where both Primary and Secondary students proudly spoke in their mother languages. In Reception, students added their favourite words to a growing multilingual display, while outside, pétanque brought a touch of friendly competition to the playground at break and lunchtime. Students also enjoyed a student-led calligraphy workshop, where they had their names beautifully written in different languages and alphabets, from Greek, Japanese and Arabic to Russian and Hebrew. We also filmed a special video capturing students sharing how to say "Hello, how are you?" in their mother languages.
